About Pharaoh Hounds
Believed to originate in ancient Egypt and later developed in Malta, the Pharaoh Hound was bred for hunting rabbits in the rocky terrain of the Mediterranean islands. Their distinctive tan coat and unique ability to blush when excited made them treasured companions of Maltese hunters.
Their short, smooth coat requires minimal grooming but sheds seasonally. Pharaoh Hounds are independent and alert, known for their strong hunting instincts and sensitive nature.
They are devoted to their families but can be reserved with strangers. Pharaoh Hounds need moderate exercise and excel at activities that engage their hunting instincts. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of hip dysplasia, eye conditions, and bloat that can affect the breed.
