About Samoyeds
The Samoyed originated in Siberia, where they were bred by the Samoyede people for herding reindeer, pulling sleds, and providing warmth in extreme cold. These dogs were essential to the survival of their nomadic owners in the harsh Arctic environment.
Samoyeds are medium to large dogs with thick, fluffy white double coats and distinctive Sammy smile expressions. They're known for their friendly, gentle temperaments and their ability to thrive in cold weather.
These dogs are intelligent, friendly, and make excellent family pets. They're generally good with children and other pets, requiring substantial exercise and mental stimulation. Their thick coats shed heavily and require regular brushing to prevent matting. While generally healthy, potential concerns include hip dysplasia, eye problems, and certain genetic conditions. Early socialisation helps ensure they develop into well-adjusted, confident adults.
